If they wanted to commemorate the Louisiana Purchase they should have included an image of Napoleon on the nickel! Our delegates had been sent to Paris by Jefferson to try to buy simply the Port of New Orleans and Napoleon offered up instead what became the Louisiana Purchase at an unbelievable bargain that more than doubled the size of the USA. LOL, he probably figured after he secured all of Europe he was going to take it back anyway....

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Well you see Jumper some jackass in Washington realized that hey, we have a huge deficit right now, all of America is having money problems (except California, that is until they have to pay back that loan), so what we need to do is spend a small fortune on someone to design some new coins, because hey, just because we like and are use to the nickels, everything has to change, no matter if no one really gives a crap, I mean I can't even tell you what is on the back of the nickel now without having to look. So they shelled out the 150 dollars an hour or so to some design firm most likely (who probably is a "friend" of someones, and in turn, since it was a government contract they most likely sat on their asses for 5 days staring at the computer screen just racking up those lovely dollars. Then when it came down to design, they probably spent another day and a half on that. So now we have 6 and a half days worth of design at 150 an hour we are now at 7,800 dollars. Next comes the time to prep it and getting it cleaned up to present to the person who came up with this idiotic idea. He, being a man of power, realizes that something needs to change, so he makes a suggestion (a crap mark if you will just so he can say he had something to do with the design process). Next up is all the money they have to spend to just make all the nickels, let alone the man hours, and my goodness the distribution!Originally posted by Jumper69:

So jumper, you ask why we needed new nickels? So some jackass and his "friend" can get rich while spending far more money then the government should.
